Content Hierarchy

Between Reels, feed posts and stories, there’s a lot to be done when it comes to creating social media content for your business.

If you don’t have a lot of time but need to get some content out, what should you be focusing on that will get you the most runs on the board? Is your time better spent creating a reel or posting to stories?

Here’s your cheat sheet:

REELS
Video - without a doubt - is the most important digital medium. If you have only 5 minutes a day to create content for your business, this is where we’d recommend you spend your time. Reels don’t need to be complicated or over-produced to work (in fact, the less produced they are, the better), they just need to be effective. And what’s “effective” is really subjective - according to your audience that is. What is effective for Brand A’s audience isn’t necessarily effective for Brand B’s audience, especially if they operate in different industries. Brand A’s audience might respond better to educational videos, while Brand B’s engage more with comedic content. What your audience considers “effective” comes down to the nature of the product or service: if you’re selling accounting services for example, your audience will be looking for information and education rather than the people in your team dancing to the latest track from Doja Cat.

If you like the idea of creating Reels but not quite sure where to start, here are some ideas to get you going:
+ Tutorial or how-to video
+ Educational
+ Product review
+ Influencers using / reviewing your product
+ Behind the scenes in your office / packing orders / at a photoshoot / etc…
+ A quick 3 - 5 sec video of you at your desk with a quote / piece of advice / to do list / etc…

CAROUSEL POSTS
If Reels aren’t quite your thing, then the next best option is a carousel post: it’s a post to your feed that contains more than 1 image or video in it. We specify “carousel” rather than just a “post” because carousels outperform a post with just 1 image in it. It fetches better reach because it keeps your post in your audience’s feed for longer - if there’s only 1 image to view, it is seen once and promptly disappears. Multiple images give the algorithm more chances to show it in the feed.

Keep the captions short and simple, add in an emoji or 2 and put your best foot forward by selecting a handful of great images / videos to show in your carousel stack. If you like to curate your feed aesthetic, then select your strongest image as the headliner in the stack.

Here are some ideas for carousel posts so that you can get started today:
+ 1 product being used in multiple ways to show versatility
+ User-generated content of your product(s) being used
+ Testimonial tiles for 1 product
+ Showcase the products within a broader category
+ Step by step of how to use a product
+ Showcase your best sellers

STORIES
And if all else fails and it’s a super busy week (yay!) with NO time for content creation, then a story (or 4) will do the trick. Add in some interactive features like:
+ Polls
+ Sliding scales
+ Add yours
+ Question boxes
and a link to purchase / find out more / read more / get in touch.

Stories are great because the content featured doesn’t need to be beautiful or professionally edited - they can be created quick and easily with just an iPhone. One thing to note: stories work best when they’re done consistently, so try to get in the habit of posting stories daily where possible.

And of course if content creation is becoming a bit difficult to get to on a regular basis, that’s exactly what we’re here for.
